The Philippine islands lie 800km off the southeastern coast of Asia. The archipelago is composed of about 7,100 islands and islets that have a maritime tropical climate. Which means that the climate is hot & humid all year-round. The two main islands are Luzon in the north and Mindanao in the south. Variations in temperature are due to differences in altitude, hot and humid on the plains and cooler in the mountains. The islands are well-watered with the western Philippines having a distinct dry season between March and May. Typhoons frequently strike the northerly eastern coast.
