South Africa World Cup leaves tourism legacy in Johannesburg
People who book Johannesburg flights will be able to benefit from the legacy of the recent World Cup, according to officials.

Consumers who have booked cheap flights to Johannesburg should find the World Cup has left some permanent benefits in the region.

The Joburg Tourism Company (JTC) said it invested lots of money in equipping people working in the tourism and services sector with useful skills prior to the tournament.

Laura Vercueil, manager of communications and public relations at the body, noted that efforts to disseminate information more effectively to visitors were also put in place ahead of the World Cup.

Since those employees who have been trained in new skills are still working in tourism, people who have booked Johannesburg flights will continue to benefit from this investment for some time to come.

Ms Vercueil added that nearly a million people visited the city during the World Cup, although she said this figure is based on anecdotal evidence rather than actual data.

This comes after South African president Jacob Zuma stated that the World Cup has given the country "priceless" social benefits.
