Flights to Thailand appear to be attracting
plenty of demand after officials hailed the strength of the Thai
tourism industry.
According to the Pacific Asia Travel Association, the holiday
industry in Thailand is outperforming the region as a whole.
John Koldowski, chief executive of the body, said this is
significant because Asian tourism is already enjoying a
"remarkable" rate of growth.
"Not only does this highlight the remarkable resilience of
tourism generally, it also demonstrates the extremely strong appeal
of Thailand as a desirable destination for international
travellers," he commented.
Mr Koldowski added that during the first half of 2010, the
number of international visitors to Asia increased by more than 13
million.
This is 11.4 per cent up on the amount recorded during the same
period of the previous year.
The comments come after the Thai tourism ministry revealed that
more than 7.5 million foreign nationals visited the country between
January and June 2010 - 13.7 per cent more than in the same period
of 2009.
