I don’t know why Tehran is not famous as a tourist destination, but I would say that we must visit this place once in our life at least. Tehran is a beautiful part of Iran and situated at the foothill of Alborz Mountains. The city has got relatively fair temperature creating an enjoyable place to travel around and see following sights and museums -

The Golestan Palace

The palace is also known as Roseland Palace and oldest historic monument in Tehran which is today a part of World Heritage Site. Its compound contains 17th structures including palaces, museums and halls. Almost all structures have been built 200 years ago. The museum inside the complex got attractive items.

Naivaran Palace

Being a historical building located at north side of the city, it also contains a number of buildings and museums. The Palace was completed in 1968 and was the important residence of the imposing family. It was designed by the Iranian architect Mohsen Foroughi. There is a beautiful garden in front of the palace.

Azadi Tower

In other word, it is previously called as “Shahyad Tower” which means “King Memorial Tower” in Persian language. It is one of the symbols of Tehran city and considered as the west entrance to the city. The iconic design has strong influence and gives you an idea about Iranian architecture.

Carpet Museum of Iran

Situated in the city, alongside Laleh Park and founded in 1976, the museum exhibits a variety of Persian Carpets across the country, dating from the 18th century to the present. The museum occupies 3400 square meters and its library contains 7,000 books. The museum’s exterior is designed like a carpet loom and to cast shade on the exterior walls, reducing the impact of the hot summer sun on the interior temperature.

Somewhere the museum reflects the culture and tradition of the country. It was opened for the public in 1977 and an example of fashionable art. Most of the part is positioned underground. It is considered as the most expensive compilation of the western fresh art. The museum holds a revolving programme of exhibitions and occasionally organizes exhibitions by local artists.

The tomb of Ayatollah Khomeini

The mausoleum is located to the south of Tehran and boasts a cultural and tourist centre, a university of Islamic studies, a shopping mall, a seminar and car parking. It is also a holy place for followers of Khomeini. The tomb is designed beautifully and leaves you surprised.
