Gambia – A Small country packed with beautiful wonders

Gambia, the smallest country in Africa is wedged between North Atlantic coastline and Senegal. This traveller’s haven is frequented by a large number of travellers for its laidback beaches and amazing opportunity of sun and surf. Despite being small in size the country is beautifully loaded with an array of tourist activities to cater travellers with varied whim and fancy. Adding to the variety, there are small fishing villages, nature reserves and former slave colonies. In addition to these, Gambia is also a bird lover’s paradise. Bijilo Forest Park

Despite being small in size, this forest reserve offers an escape from the city life. On your visit you will go through lush vegetation, gallery forest, low bush and grass and the dunes. The guests will also be able to see vervet, red colobus and patas monkeys which have become quite familiar to visitors. The area also has presence of monitor lizards. The place is also a bird watchers paradise with presence of several bird species.

African Living Centre

African Living Art Centre combines an antique gallery, a cafe and an orchid garden. The place is a premier institution to know arts scene of the country. The centre remains abuzz with activities round the year as it plays host to exhibitions, invites artists from the different parts of the country and the world and organises workshops on contemporary art of the country. The place also offers a platform to talk to artists about their work. Once you are through with these activities you can sip coffee at an adjoining cafe.

Albert Market

Since its inception in the mid-19th century, the Albert Market is a hub of selling and buying. On your visit to the place you can see a large number of buyers haggling with buyers. Readymade clothes, grooming materials, shoes and electric goods are popularly shopped items. Even if you don’t wish to buy you spend some time to spend smell and sounds of the market. The market also has some good dining options for your hungry belly.

Abuko Nature Reserve

One of the major national parks in Gambia, Abuko Nature Reserve is well known for its diversity of vegetation and animals. The area is also famous among bird watchers for presence of 250 bird species. Some of the major animal species residing in Abuko Nature Reserve are bushbucks, duikers, porcupines, bush babies, ground squirrels and some species of monkey. The area is highly famous for its presence of Nile crocodiles, pythons and forest cobras.
