Just imagine for once that you know everything about this pretty city “Chennai”. But even though I have added some most essential facts for which Chennai has been rewarded as the best cosmopolitan city in the world.

Nalli

The place is known for buying a Kanchipuram silk saree. There are many shops here selling Kanchipuram sarees but buying from here is no less than a tradition for residents here. It is very old and famous weaver of Kanchipuram sarees which is located in T.Nagar.

Kapaleeswarar Temple

Temples in Chennai are a great attraction among travelers and not visiting these while in the city, then I think you didn’t know about the culture and history of the city. Kapaleeswarar Temple is an ancient temple in Chennai dedicated to Lord Shiva and built in the 17th century. The main attraction of this temple is the Punnai an oldest tree in the courtyard and possess a hidden history inside itself.

St Mary’s church

This is one of the oldest Anglican churches built in 1680 in Chennai. Over the years, the church has gone under various architectural additions but still you can see the original woodworks in the interior. It is a dramatic replica of the catholic churches.

Cotton Street

The hot weather of Chennai makes cotton a preferable cloth to wear throughout the year. Visit the cotton street to buy some for your wardrobe. There are a number of shops lined up in a row and most of them have their own specialty, so choose from it. Apart from clothes, you can buy curtains, tablecloths and bedspreads. Don’t forget to bargain over here.

Marina Beach

The beach holds an honor of having world’s eleventh longest beach. Despite being visited by a number of travelers, the Marina beach is a regular hunt for locals and always buzzing with events. The beach is also dotted with lots of food stalls serving traditional to continental recipes. Go for a walk in the evening and enjoy an ambience.

George Town

The place nearby Fort St. George, the initial British fort in India built in 1639, is called as George Town. In the century of 1950s, lots of Marwaris settled here and the neighborhood was renamed as Sahukar pet. The surrounding area may be ruled by Northern Indians, but the buildings are still traditional.

Vivekananda House

The Vivekananda House is a most interesting place not only for its possessions, but also for its curved form, established in 1842 to preserve ice transferred from America. Swami Vivekananda stayed here for a short period of time in 1897 and gave his austere Hindu philosophy to loving crowds. The house contains a graphic idea of Hindu philosophy and holy literature, an image display on his life and the space where he stayed, now use for yoga. Free 1 hour yoga classes are conducted on every Wednesday at 7 PM.
