Port Elizabeth where serenity is biggest attraction

Port Elizabeth may not match the tourism appeal of Johannesburg and Cape Town but it has enough things to make it interesting in its own way. The city boasts of some beautiful beaches and some historic buildings that deserve exploration. The beaches and magnificent buildings may have their own charm but quiet environment is the biggest charmer. The city may be quiet and small but it is not quaint. If you are looking for a little bit of nightlife then visit the Boardwalk complex near the beach where you will find some restaurants, cafés, theatre and casinos. But tourists should keep their expectations low in material things and savour its natural beauty instead which is in abundance. So board a flight to Port Elizabeth and explore its abundant natural beauty.

Explore the Donkin Heritage Trail

Tourists who want to know the authentic account of Port Elizabeth then walking down the Dunkin Trail could be an excellent experience. On the way you will come across several monuments and historical sites. The trail is named after the acting governor of the Cape Colony at the time, Sir Rufane Donkin. You should walk the trail even if you are not a history enthusiast. There are several signposts and information board that helps you explore this destination on your own.

Hobie Beach

If you are a beach lover spare no opportunity to visit Hobie Beach which is good for swimming, surfing and sunbathing. Apart from that the beach is also the venue for the annual Splash Festival. The Beach Volleyball and World Boardsailing Championships are other events being organised here. The guest visiting this beach can take part in an array of activities that includes scuba diving, windsurfing, and kiting, surfing, jet skiing.

Addo Elephant Park

Visiting Addo Elephant Park could be an experience of the lifetime. The park is home to more than 500 elephants. The park which is home to several plant and animal species has been expanded for the conservation of animal and plant species.

Museums

Despite being a small city Port Elizabeth is home to some good museums. South End Museum and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Museum are prominent among them. At the South End Museum the story of South End, a small and beautiful neighbourhood, is depicted. The area was destroyed during the forced removal from 1965 to 1975. Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Museum is housed in two residential blocks and has collection of art works from the famous artists.

Campanile

This bell tower was built to mark the landing of the 1820 British settlers. The structure is situated in the proximity to the harbour and railway station. A flight of 204 steps take you to the top where you can see largest carillon of bells.
