Enjoying a stunning location on the island of Antigua, Saint John’s is the capital of island Antigua and Barbuda. The city has been the hub of administration of Twin Island since it was first colonised in 1632 and it continued as a capital when the country got independence in 1981. This major city on the islands receives flights from different parts of the world. Its location at a distance of few kilometres from the city make it gateway to the rest of the island. Given the small size of the island, travellers would be able to visit rest of the island and various attractions situated here. Spread over an area of around 10 Sq Km the city may not be a large urban hub but has enough to fulfil travellers’ needs.

The travellers should start their city exploration with a visit to Heritage Quay which is one the major draw cards of the city. Situated near the downtown, it is the place where most of the cruise ships docks. Radcliffe Quay which is situated next to the harbour is another point of interests for travellers. During Georgian times it was main trading post for slaves, coffee sugar and rum. There are several restaurants and bars in neighbourhood where one can take a break. If you want to get an understanding of the island’s history then there is no better place to do so than St. John’s Cathedral. The first church here was made up wood in 17th century. Later, a brick mortar church was built that couldn’t endure an earthquake. The church and markets may have their importance but no trip of Saint John is said to be complete unless you visit its beaches; Dickinson Beach and Deep Bay beach are prominent among them.
