Soon passengers from Birmingham will be able to fly direct to New Orleans and Jacksonville as Silver Airways has announced its return to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport in June.

This Ft. Lauderdale based regional airline serves the Southeast U.S., mainly in Florida, where there are connections to The Bahamas.

The regional carrier has hubs at Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa, and is building a hub in Jacksonville.

The airline will offer twice-daily nonstop service between Birmingham and New Orleans, and also fly nonstop daily between Birmingham and Jacksonville. The new service starts on June 16.

Previously in 2013, Southwest Airlines withdrew its services to both cities citing low passenger counts as a reason. Both these destinations are popular among business as well as leisure passengers and flights are being launched keeping in view great passenger demand.

The new services are expected to be well received by leisure as well as business travellers.
