British based low cost airline Jet2 has announced the launch of direct flights to and from the Austrian capital Vienna from north of England from 2014. Jet2.com’s commencement of flights to Vienna from Manchester is the only direct service from the north of UK. The three times weekly summer service will begin operating from 2nd May 2014. Up until now passengers either had to take an indirect flight often via a German airport or fly from London direct to Vienna which added considerable time and coast to the journeys.

According to Steve Heapy, Chief Executive Officer of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, the airline is seeing a growing number of local customers supplementing their main summer holidays with a series of shorter weekend trips. So it is great to further expand the city and short breaks offering from the North West to the fantastic trio of destinations Vienna, Bergerac and Jersey. The continued growth of airline clearly demonstrates its ongoing commitment to providing local customers an unrivalled choice of great value flights and holidays to the top European destinations.

In the words of Stephen Turner, Aviation Commercial Director for MAG, Manchester Airport’s parent company, the airport is delighted to welcome the continued growth of Jet2.com and the introduction of three new routes including Vienna which is the largest unserved European destination at the airport. The announcement continues the success of the Fly Manchester campaign, delivering direct connectivity to key European and worldwide destinations.
