Singapore Airlines customers flying to Mumbai and New Delhi will be able to experience the world’s largest aircraft from late May, with the deployment of the Airbus A380 on select flights. The superjumbo A380 will operate daily to Mumbai and New Delhi with effect from 30th May 2014, taking over from two daily flights that currently serve each city using smaller Boeing 777s. Another daily flight will continue to be operated with B777s with a total of 14 flights serve each city per week. The decision comes after the government allowed Airbus A380 to fly into the country in January.

According to Ms Lee Wen Fen, Singapore Airlines Senior Vice President Marketing, the airline is very keen to operate the Airbus A380 to India and is glad that the air services agreement between Singapore and India now allows the airline to do so. The customers will soon be able to experience the spacious and comfort of world’s largest aircraft.

Other major international passenger carriers such as Lufthansa and Emirates have shown interest in operating A380 aircraft in India on various international routes. At present only four airports Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore have the required infrastructure for handling A380 operations. The super jumbo can accommodate up to 853 passengers in a single-class configuration.

Singapore Airlines also offer flights to India from UK.
