  • City Breaks in Bali

    City Breaks

Bali is famously one of the most beautiful islands in the world, and is as rightly popular with seasoned travellers as it is with family holidaymakers and pleasure-seeking honeymooners. A holiday to Bali will bring with it guaranteed relaxation on pristine, white sanded beaches combined with a delightfully heady mix of rich culture and, if you’re up to it, fantastic parties.

More populated areas of the island include Southern Kuta, which has an annual nine day ‘karnival’ that offers visitors a chance to experience traditional dancing and cuisine on vast swathes of golden sand. Close to the airport, Kuta is a good spot to base yourself if you’re planning to visit a few places around the island, though it’s very much designed for tourists.

The slightly less populated Lovina in the north features volcanic, black sand beaches, some fabulous snorkelling and superb spa’s for the ultimate in relaxation. There’s also the Gitgit waterfall, a gorgeous feature set in lush rainforest that houses a wealth of interesting wildlife. The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Ubud is an essential stop for nature lovers, though the macaques monkeys are cheeky and inquisitive, so make sure you don’t have any food stowed away on you. Whilst there, make sure to stop by the Pura Taman Ayun Temple, a beautiful, historic building surrounded by stunning water gardens and lotus flowers. Finally, in southern Bali, surfers will find nirvana as reefs and coastal lines present fabulous opportunities for beginners and experts alike.

The local cuisine, if you look beyond the westernised dishes you’re likely to find in most hotels and restaurants, is an intoxicating mixture of rice, meat, fish, herbs and spices. If you fancy doing some cooking yourself, the Jimbaran fish markets in the south make for a fascinating visit.

A holiday to Bali doesn’t have to be expensive, and since Carlton leisure offer flights from as little as £546, you no longer have any excuse to stay away from this most magical of islands.
