Aarhus – A laidback city with interesting museums

Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark, is synonymous with laidback environment. The city may not be as glamorous as Copenhagen but is a perfect destination for those looking for a relaxed vacation. The city is a beautiful mix of youthful energy with history. But what makes it wonderful destination is its proximity to beaches, forests and harbour. The art scene in Aarhus is not dull as there are some world class museums dotting city’s landscape. But if you are a history buff you can stroll down its Latin American quarters that exude history. Aarhus has a vibrant cafe scene so the guests can have options to just sit idle in a cafe sipping coffee. With so much to offer the city receives hordes of tourists who fly to Aarhus to explore its various allures.

Moesgaard Museum

Situated at a short drive from the city recently renovated Moesgaard Museum is one of the hot favourite among visitors. The museum has several things on offers the most popular one is a 2000-year-old Grauballe Man, whose preserved body was found in 1952.

ARoS

One of the major art galleries in Denmark, ARoS houses a vast collection of 19th- and 20th-century Danish art where the guests can have a vast collection of contemporary art. The guests can see the art pieces from Warhol and Lichtenstein and several works of Danish artist Bjørn Nørgaard consisting of parts of a horse he sacrificed in protest at the Vietnam War.

Den Gamle By

Den Gamle By is an open air museum spread over 75 half timbered houses, brought here from all corners of the world. You can ride horse drawn wagon and see craftspeople practicing their art. There are museums to cater people with varying interest. The Danish Poster Museum houses several retro pieces that attract people from around the world. If children are part of your entourage then don’t forget to take them to Toy Museum that showcases antique toys. The guests can also visit Gallery of Decorative Arts where silverware, porcelain and clocks are popular exhibit.

ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum

As you enter ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum you will get amazed to see its enormous space, white walls and a vast array of Golden Age Works. A wide selection of Danish modernism and vivid contemporary art is also on display. From the top of museum you can get panoramic view of the surrounding. The main theme of museums is Dante’s The Divine Comedy.
