Beautifully sandwiched between Lithuania to the south and Estonia to the north, Latvia looks distinct from its neighbours. This former base of the Knights of the Swords still exudes a German influence. The country that came under soviet rule during 1944 still showcases effects of Soviet rule and effects of their rule can still be seen in its dialect. A visit to Riga will let you see that a large number of people of Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian origin are living here. Sprinkled with a cover of greenery, onion domed mosques, spectacular beaches and vibrant cities; Latvia appears as a heady mix of history and hedonism. Most of the travellers eager to explore this country fly to Riga which is the capital and largest city in Latvia.

Riga

Riga, the Latvian capital has a big city charm that attracts foreign and local travellers alike and sobriquets like ‘The Paris of the North’, ‘The Second City that Never Sleeps’ hold true to it. This most important city in Baltic is an ideal place to sample art-nouveau architecture in Europe. Daugavpilse

For most of the travelers, Daugavplise appears as a scary destination where prisons give company to churches. The city has gone a long way from its formers days, and now this most important city in Latgate region, is one of the highly sought after destinations in the region. On their visit to the city, the guests will come across a friendly and energetic vibe. The city doesn’t offers much in terms of tourist attractions but there are a good number of places which you can explore in order to while away your time.. While its 19th century architecture is worth watching Daugavpilse Castle which remain unharmed during several wars is no less a tourists attraction. The travelers can also go to visit church ensemble Jaunbuve, historical center of the city and other tourist destinations.

Liepaja

Situated on Baltic Sea coast, Liepaja a windy city is well known for the great environment for music. For most of the Latvians, the winds start at the city and a large number of musicians come from there. Liepaja which was founded by Livonian order in 13th century is the third largest city in country. The city came to prominence when Tsar Alexander III developed this port. During WWII, the Soviets occupied the city and converted it into their military base. In recent decades, the city has gone under a great change making it a great destination among the travelers.

Sigulda

Situated on the western tip of Riga region, Sigulda is also referred as the ‘Switzerland of Latvia.’ The city is situated in picturesque Gauja river valley. Sigulda boasts a great history that backs to thirteenth century. During their visit to the city the guests will come across castles built to protect this city. Turaida Museum Reserve, Gutman's cave, Krimulda Manor, Krimulda Castle Ruins, Sigulda New Castle, Sigulda Medieval Castle Ruins and Sigulda Medieval Castle Ruins are major attractions.
