One of India’s beautiful and desert cities, Jaipur is affectionately called as the Pink city due to its pink walls and buildings, draws travelers with its dramatic bits and pieces of a former era. The most attractive things to visit in Jaipur are forts and palaces, with complicated architectures that serve as a glittering reminder of their majestic legacy. Here are some enchanting forts and palaces in Jaipur, which you can explore through walking.

Nahargarh Fort

The fort also called as Tiger fort is situated on the Aravali hills overlooking Jaipur city. The fort was built in the 1734 to prevent the city and it got more popularity in 2006 when Rang De Basanti was filmed here. The fort gives you many spectacular views which are best seen at sunset. It is a great place to enjoy your evening. The fort looks attractive at night when the light lit up.

Note – Located in the North-East of city center, the fort is open for 10 AM to 5.30 PM per day.

City Palace

A tour to this magnificent City Palace makes easy to see the royal families of Jaipur. The immense eye-pleasing buildings with courtyards, gardens and others blend both Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. The peacock gate is superb including an attractive display of the detailed workmanship. Now a day the royal families are living in the elegant Chandra Mahal (Moon Palace) bodering the courtyard. Also inside the City Palace, there is a museum, art gallery and interesting displays of royal costumes and old Indian weapons.

Note – Located in Old city, the Palace is open for 9.30 AM to 5 PM per day.

Hawa Mahal

The intricate and fascinating façade of the Palace of the winds is probably Jaipur’s most recognized structure. Built in the 1799, it has five floors contains rows of small windows and screens. Winds flow through these openings and keeps the inside atmosphere cool. As per the legends, the Palace was built for women of the Royal household so that they could see the streets below without being observed. A heart-touching scene can be seen from the top of the structure.

Note - Located next to the City Palace, the Hawa Mahal is open for 9 AM to 5 PM per day.

Jaigarh Fort

The massive Jaigarh fort was built in 1726 is a great place for military lovers. Lined up by the gigantic gateways and watchtowers, it includes the world’s biggest field gun on wheels. The fort has remained intact over its long life, and is very well preserved. Even you can consider it as the best preserved military structures of medieval India. Jaigarh doesn’t have delicate interiors and that’s why it appears as a true fortress. Climb on the top of the fort to enjoy the excellent view over the plains.

Amber Fort and Palace

Almost half an hour of drive from the city center, Amber fort and Palace is situated at the top hill overlooking the Maota Lake. A visit to this fort looks similar to a fairy tale. The fort contains halls, gardens and temples. The mirror work inside the Palace adds extra charms and excites you to know about its impressive history. The fort doorway can be arrived by walking up the hill, jeep ride or an exciting elephant ride.
