In recent decades, we have seen phenomenal growth in the Indian outsourcing market. A large number of companies are coming to India due to low cost of operation and skilled manpower. A large number of these companies are in customer support, accounting, animation, IT and IT enabled services. Most of these companies have started their operations in cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai. Good connectivity from the different parts of the world, excellent infrastructure, skilled professionals, lower attrition rates and low cost of living have helped these cities emerge as a great outsourcing destinations. Here we give a brief account of what make these cities worth exploring.


Bengaluru also called as Bangalore is a prominent IT hub in India. This hub of IT and software is also called as Silicon Valley of India. Pleasant climate has also been a great factor behind Bangalore’s popularity as a hub of outsourcing. The city which is the capital of state of Karnataka in India commands the glory of being the place of origin of the Indian outsourcing revolution. Insufficient infrastructure, constant political bickering, large population and insufficient civic amenities are major bottleneck but Bangalore appears to be fighting these demons. Apart from IT and software which are mainstay for the city, it cater to chip design, IT consulting, tax processing, bio–informatics and other forms of outsourcing businesses. The city’s landscape is dotted with top notch MNCs that include Infosys, Wipro, Intel, IBM, SAP, SAS, Dell, Tisco, HP, Oracle, Yahoo and Accenture among others.


Situated on the southern cost of India on Bay of Bengal, Chennai the capital of Indian state of Tamil Nadu has emerged as a popular outsourcing hub in India. The city has an edge over other cities due to low cost of living, better infrastructure, ample space, high connectivity, availability of skilled IT resources and better connectivity from across the world. With excellent infrastructure facilities the city is fast becoming a hub of software, animation, ITES, back office and tax processing among other things. The city is a home to some of the world renowned companies that include Cognizant, Standard Chartered, and Polaris among others.


Apart from being famous for Charminar and Biryani, Hyderabad is famous for being a major outsourcing hub also. With great infrastructure, excellent civic amenities and skilled manpower, Hyderabad has emerged as a great destination for outsourcing business. The city has got a great reputation as a hub of BPO, software, ITES and product design outsourcing. Some of the major companies dotting city’s landscape are HSBC, Satyam, Google and Microsoft.

Delhi and NCR (national capital region)

Delhi together with its neighbouring cities like Gurgaon and Noida is a major hub of outsourcing. Great connectivity from several international locations, great infrastructure and skilled manpower has made Delhi NCR a great place for outsourcing. Arrival of call centre services, chip designs, transaction processing and software services has made impact on city’s economy and now more and more companies are coming to this city. Also called the financial capital of India, the city of Mumbai with good government policies, skilled IT resources and excellent infrastructure has become a highly sought after outsourcing location. Mumbai has become the hub of companies dealing in application development, software solutions, BPO services and healthcare solutions.

Kolkata, Pune, Chandigarh , Mohali and Mysore are other prominent IT outsourcing hubs that are popular with global investors.
