Xiamen a small city with old world charm

One of the most spectacular cities in Fujian province of China; Xiamen is also referred as Amoy. With old buildings restored to its former glory, beautifully maintained streets and vibrant seashores; Xiamen exudes a charm which is very uncommon to China. With a history dating back to 12th century the city has been the stronghold of Ming loyalist Zheng Chenggong, till China was overrun by the Qing. Gulang Islet

Situated on the bank of Lujiang River, Gulang Islet is also referred as the ‘Marine Garden. This small island spread over 1.87 sq km is home to 20,000 music lovers. On your visit to this island don’t miss an opportunity to visit Sunlight Rock, Shuzhuang Garden, Gangzaihou Bathing Beach and the Memorial Hall of Zheng Chenggong.

Zhong Shan Park

Zhong Shan Park was built in the memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, founding father of the republic of China. The park looks good with its beautiful lake, small zoo and canal worth navigating on a paddleboat.

Wulao Peaks

Wulao Peaks also referred as the Peaks of Five Old­Men is another attraction in Xiamen. Surrounded by white clouds the peaks appear like five men looking at the sea.

Nanputuo Temple

Nanputuo Temple is one of the major attractions for tourists visiting Xiamen. The temples roof is adorned with clustered flowers, sinewy serpents, and mythical beasts. The temple has gone under restoration several times; the recent restoration took place in the 1980s.

Overseas Chinese Museum

If museum hopping is your hobby then Xiamen does not disappoint you. Overseas Chinese Museum situated in the southern part of the city is one such place highly popular with museum hoppers. There are three halls in the museum where pictures, documents, personal items, and relics linked to the great waves of emigration are on exhibit.

10,000 Rock Botanical Garden

Apart from its other allures, Xiamen is also a city to get acquainted with the flora of the region. Ringing a beautiful lake, the 10,000 Rock Botanical Garden acquaints you to more than 5,300 species of tropical and subtropical flora. The Botanical Garden has several pavilions.

Hakka Roundhouses

Hakka Roundhouses have been intriguing tourists for a very long time and it has intrigued American military who first spotted them. They mistook it for silos for some gigantic missiles. These round houses are great examples of beautiful Hakka architecture. These roundhouses are situated at a distance of 210 km and joining a group could be an ideal way to explore it.
