Caracas a destination for tourists with varying interest

Drool inducing delicacies, great art scene, stunning setting and some world renowned landmarks; Caracas the Venezuelan capital spoils you for choice with its countless allures. The city is so stunning that no one want to miss out an opportunity to visit it. Its oil fuelled opulence may be new found but its history is four century long which can be experienced even while traversing through glass adorned skyscrapers. Progressive, jet-set and cosmopolitan could be your choice of word when you try to put it down in black and white. Here we scratch its shiny surface to find out what this one of the most attractive destinations in Venezuela holds for visitors.

Of arts and artefacts

The affluence that comes from its oil economy has not hindered its art scene. Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas is the best place to see artworks. The artworks are showcased in dozen halls spread over five levels. Here you will see artworks by famous Venezuelan artists that include Jesús Soto among others. Museo de Bellas Artes is housed in two buildings designed by Venezuelan architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva. On your visit to museum, you will see permanent exhibitions from Egypt and China and several other temporary exhibitions in its 18 galleries. Galeria de Arte Nacional which was inaugurated by Hugo Chavez in 2009 is also a prominent museum.

Religious sides of Caracas

Caracas is also home to several religious sites. And you can see several cathedrals dotting the city’s landscape. Cathedral situated on the eastern end of Plaza Bolívar the cathedral was first started as a mud walled chapel. Now the cathedral is well known for its beautiful building. Iglesia Santa Capilla modeled on the Sainte Chapelle of Paris is also a great religious attraction in the city.

Landmarks

Plaza Bolivar, the popular square in the heart of the city is an important landmark. The plaza remains alive for the most parts of the day with caraqueños chatting and children playing. The square gives you an insight into the day to day life of a common citizen.

Estadio Universitario

Béisbol (baseball) is highly popular among locals and if lucky the travellers can get to see match in progress at this 18,500-seat stadium which is also home to the Leones de Caracas. Thousands of locals flock to this stadium when it plays host to the professional league games.
